Former railway line converted into a greenway.
Linking Briouze to Bagnoles-de-l’Orne Normandie via La Ferté-Macé on foot or by bike is 21 km of pure pleasure!
It’s a great opportunity for safe walking and cycling in an environment where nature reigns supreme. It’s a natural escape for everyone. During your ride, you’ll cross the Andaines forest, pass close to La Ferté-Macé, cross tunnels and footbridges and enjoy views over the surrounding countryside.
Don’t hesitate to leave the route to discover a rich natural heritage, such as the Briouze wetlands reserve, the Lande-Forêt lake at Le Grais, the La Ferté-Macé aquatic outdoor leisure centre or the Andaines forest near Bagnoles-de-l’Orne, where you might even come across red and roe deer and maybe even a wild boar. And why not continue pedalling along the Véloscénie towards Carrouges or Domfront? Bagnoles-de-l’Orne is one of the stops on this cycle touring route.
The Briouze to Couterne line had its heyday in the 20th century, particularly with spa visitors. It provided a service from the Paris-Granville line to the only spa resort in the west of France: Bagnoles-de-l’Orne. Abandoned in the early 1990s, the line fell into disrepair until its renovation into the new greenway
